This privacy policy specifically applies to candidates taking proctored technical interviews through InterviewZen. This policy supplements our main Privacy Policy and explains what data we collect during your interview session and how it’s handled.
What We Monitor During Your Interview
When you participate in a proctored interview through InterviewZen, we collect the following data:
- Typing Patterns: Real-time keystroke data including timing, patterns, code content, and typing analytics (typing speed, backspace count, pause patterns)
- Screen Recording: Continuous screen capture with 30-second rolling buffer that captures violation evidence when security events occur
- Webcam Screenshots: Periodic screenshots every 3 minutes, plus additional screenshots during question transitions and security events
- Security Events: Data about window switches, tab changes, copy/paste activities, suspicious typing patterns (high speed, large text jumps), and other potentially suspicious behaviors
- System Information: Basic information about your computer, browser, and interview session metadata
How We Use Your Data
Your interview data is used exclusively for:
- Interview Assessment: Allowing hiring managers to review your technical performance, problem-solving approach, and typing replay
- Security Monitoring: Detecting suspicious behaviors like high typing speeds (>150 WPM), large text jumps suggesting copy/paste, long pauses, window switching, and other policy violations
- Identity Verification: Periodic webcam screenshots to ensure the person taking the interview is the intended candidate
- Violation Evidence: Screen recording clips (30-second segments) are captured only when security violations are detected
Data Retention and Deletion
- Automatic Deletion: All interview data (screen recordings, typing data, webcam screenshots) is automatically deleted 30 days after your interview
- No Long-Term Storage: We do not retain your interview data beyond this 30-day period
- Immediate Access Removal: Your interviewer’s access to review your session expires when the hiring decision is made or after 30 days, whichever comes first
- Note: No continuous audio recording is performed - only screen and webcam capture
Your Rights
As an interview candidate, you have the right to:
- Access: Request to see what data we’ve collected about you during your interview (typing patterns, screenshots, security events)
- Deletion: Request immediate deletion of your interview data (subject to any ongoing hiring process requirements)
- Correction: Request correction of any personal information we have about you
- Withdrawal: Withdraw from the interview process, after which your data will be deleted within 7 days
Data Security
We protect your interview data with:
- Encryption: All data is encrypted during transmission and storage using industry-standard AES-256 encryption
- Access Controls: Only authorized personnel involved in your hiring process can access your interview data
- Secure Infrastructure: Data is stored on secure AWS servers with multiple layers of protection
- Regular Audits: We conduct regular security audits to ensure your data remains protected
Third-Party Services
We use the following trusted third-party services to process your interview data:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS): For secure data storage and processing
- Cloudflare R2: For secure media file storage
These services are bound by strict data processing agreements and security requirements.
International Data Transfers
Your interview data may be processed on servers located in the United States. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for any international data transfers in compliance with GDPR and other applicable privacy laws.
Children’s Privacy
InterviewZen’s interview services are intended for adults (18 years and older). We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 18 years of age.
